Principle 1 — Sparkle Is Edges
Refraction needs facets. Machine-cut K9 crystal with crisp bevels splits white light into color; smooth cast glass — including most smoke crystal chandelier and amber crystal looks — shines but never prisms.
Principle 2 — Frosted Bulbs Kill Prisms
Facets need a point of light to slice. A clear-glass bulb with a visible filament is a point; a frosted bulb is a smear. Same fixture, two different rooms.
Principle 3 — Light Must Pass Through, Not Soak In
Crystals lit from behind absorb; crystals with the source inside or above the elements transmit. Circle crystal chandelier designs with bulbs inside the ring exist precisely for this geometry.

K9 vs lead crystal? Optically near-equal; K9 is lighter and safer overhead. Lead’s premium is mostly tradition.
